As a driver on both continents, I would respectfully correct you to "are supposed to be filled with stripes". Alas, even as seen here, markings deteriorate - on both sides of the pond. "Unless the road marking is 105% perfect, it's never the fault of the autopilot, but look, autonomous driving!" is just pure marketing, without any substance to back it.
