Having a chat with someone can be enlightening because the conversation can be engaging, can grow organically and the ensuing organic path can lead to insight. Chatbots, to me, just don't feel very organic - it's very much a request/response paradigm, often with a limited set of useful responses (perhaps I have just encountered the basic ones). If that's all we're getting, I'd much rather just hit buttons on a screen, than type an entire question in the hope that the bot understands it (when it doesn't, it's just an annoying guessing game). Plus, as other comments have mentioned, it's very hard to see what the bot is actually capable of. With a good screen based UI, the capabilities are much more obvious. If it's not fit for your purpose, you can just quickly move on.
