It was explained to me when starting my current remote position that they didn't care how I got things done as long as they got done, and that I was expected to reasonably be available during normal local working hours and respond to communications in a timely manner. It might seem a bit vague, but it has worked well. Basically if someone emails me from my team I respond as quickly as I can. Also, Levels of Effort don't change because I am remote, so there is already a common understanding how long things take. Not having a jerk for a boos helps too.
