Whatever he was arrested for looks like it was worth it.
- thought_alarm 16y agoApparently, it was for driving under the influence of a flowery shirt.
- nuclear_eclipse 16y agoI seem to vaguely remember Pirates of Silicon Valley portraying it as a large speeding offense in a really expensive sports car. But they probably sexed it up quite a bit from the truth...
- kingkilr 16y agoI seem to recall a race with large construction vehicles.

- nuclear_eclipse 16y agoNow that you mention it, that sounds right. Apparently my memories are getting mixed up; it's been many years since I watched that film.
- commandar 16y agoI don't recall what they covered in Pirates (pretty sure the bulldozer race is in there), but BG definitely has a reputation for liking fast cars. In fact, Gates and Paul Allen lobbied to get changes to US auto regulations passed so that they could import Porsche 959s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_959#.22Gates_959.22 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_959#.22Gates_959.22
- ArcticCelt 16y agoNah, I have a particularly good memory for movie scenes. The construction vehicles scene and arrest scene are two different things. Bill gets arrested while speeding (while singing Sinatra's My Way in a sports car) and he wreck Paul Allen's car in the different bulldozer scene. Of course this is a movie so both can be pure fiction.
- philwelch 16y agoHe was arrested for speeding. He smashed up Paul Allen's car racing bulldozers.
- jra101 16y agoThat's what I remember from a biography or autobiography I read, but it has been a while...
- grinich 16y agoWhen Microsoft was based in Albuquerque, New Mexico in the late 70s, Bill Gates bought a Porsche 911 and used to race it in the desert. He was arrested for speeding 3 times. Paul Allen had to bail him out of jail after one midnight escapade.
