Sent this to all of my non-techie friends who asked wtf GitHub was and how it was worth $7.5b.
Great read.
- jlgaddis 8y agoAnd when they still didn’t “get it”? It’s a great read (and good for a few laughs) for “nerds”, sure, but it still doesn’t explain to non-techies what Github is (besides “some thing that programmers use instead of e-mail”) — or, more importantly, why it’s worth $7.5B.
- chris_wot 8y agoIt does explain it. He wrote that “Git keeps track of changes in sets of files.”
- TeMPOraL 8y agoIronically, this explanation is shorter than the article's URL.
- jlgaddis 8y agoThat doesn't really explain it, though. "You mean like 'Track changes' in Word?"
- statictype 8y agoWell, yes, that's kind of what it is, isn't it?
- fjsolwmv 8y agoThat's true, but Microsoft already does that with VSS, so that's not what is interesting about Git or GitHub.
