Is that Zuck cuddling up to the leader of a totalitarian government, or is that standard etiquette for anyone who meets the President of China? It sure comes off as creepy, but if it's a necessary formality of dealit with a powerful tyrant, so be it. Certainly doesn't win Zuck any cred with the anti-globsist-One World-government folks who'd rather not see oligarchs and tyrants working together to oppress the masses.
- factsaresacred 8y agoYou go meet the leader of China. Your wife is Chinese and you have a baby on the way. This invokes some topical conversation and builds rapport so you say, in jest and without any real intent to follow through, "We're still thinking about names. We have an idea for English but not Chinese. Mr. President, would you like to perhaps suggest a Chinese name?". Attendees and translators smile, the ice breaks a little more, and they move on to something more substantial. --- It's lighthearted throwaway banter. Watch, or attend, a meeting of world leaders or business execs...generic blah-blah proceeds all meetings.
- musage 8y agoYou're a Jew. You're literate, you have access to libraries. You can educate yourself about totalitarianism, and stuff like people being put into camps literally, or "softly": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Credit_System#Implications_for_Chinese_Citizens https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Credit_System#Implicati... > From the program, the Chinese SCS will be fully implemented starting in 2020 and will be made mandatory for every citizen. Once implemented, every citizen will be rewarded, or punished, on the basis of their behavior. Some types of punishments can be: flight ban, exclusion from private schools, slow internet connection, exclusion from high prestige work, exclusion from hotel, registration on a public blacklist. If your wife doesn't care (enough), well, it's not like she magically became your wife out of nowhere; people can have conversations before they marry.
