It always felt like they had good hardware with horrible software. Reinstalling drivers, downgrading or upgrading the OS, debugging issues, anything that crosses what Toshiba was responsible for was a nightmare when I had one, and never heard good things in that area since. Granted most Japanese makers are horrible on the software side, but Toshiba felt specially handicaped in my opinion.
