Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi memo instructs employees to say they 'have the D'

- staticautomatic 8y agoMusk also had that Twitter gaff about the "D." I don't know what to make of it but it sure is weird and not particularly confidence-inspiring.
- abritinthebay 8y agoJust an example of a certain privileged segment that many CEOs represent being out of touch with normal people.
- coreypreston 8y agoHello my fellow kids... It gets even worse if "the D" also refers to having the backing of Dara himself. Then again, I don't have the D to state that definitively though.
- mindcrime 8y agoHave these "younger employees" not heard of "context"? If you're in a business meeting, you can probably infer correctly, 100% of the time, that "have the D" isn't a reference to sex. This story is pretty much the definition of "Much ado about nothing".
- mikeJoy6 8y ago"nothing" is Elizabethan slang for vagina "give her the D" is a meme both of your paragraphs use euphemisms for genitalia asserting the opposite doesn't make it so you do not have veto power over the English language The notion that you are going to quote the name of a Shakespeare play after saying "... isn't a reference to sex" WHEN THE NAME OF THE PLAY IS A REFERENCE TO FEMALE GENITALIA...
- khedoros1 8y agoWell, one would hope. Still, it's a phrase I'd never feel comfortable using, because the first reaction is a lizard-brain emotional response, even when my conscious thought process picks up the in-context meaning immediately afterward. Honestly, it sounds like a cringeworthy Family Guy joke.
- mikeJoy6 8y agoI am quite confident the intent is to get young women to ride more. It is a very simple association with sexual contact. This is the old principle, sex sells. Uber has a terrible reputation, so playing the mook card costs it little. Nothing more than MTV gross-out humor used to sell a service. https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/cool/tour/tour2.html https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/cool/tour/tou...
- gregoriol 8y agoThis is even worse in today's and Uber's context: having the "decision" must not, in any possible way, be confused/similar/assimilated with having the "dk" He should have thought that more carefully..
