The title is misleading, it reached 5Ghz through overclocking and no mention of how many cores booted at 5Ghz, the nominal frequency of this part with all cores is 2.7ghz. Saw the photos but still skeptical about it like price wise and what cooling it need.
- dis-sys 8y agothere is a pic in the linked article clearly showing all cores are running 5GHz.
- lisk1 8y agoCheck this out, https://imgur.com/RcE5tlh https://imgur.com/RcE5tlh, this puppy is freon cooled to be able to go to 5Ghz
- int0x80 8y agoWow man, what an observer! I didnt even see the computer in the first place.
- dogma1138 8y agoIt's not freon cooled the CPU has a water block on it with ASETEK quick disconnects. They also had the 28 core Cascade Lake on the showroom floor with their partners with normal water blocks. https://videocardz.com/newz/asus-dominus-spotted-with-28-core-cascade-lake-x-cpu https://videocardz.com/newz/asus-dominus-spotted-with-28-cor... Air cooling is however quite likely out of the question if you want to keep your hearing.
- dis-sys 8y ago> Air cooling is however quite likely out of the question if you want to keep your hearing. I think air cooling is 100% out. Using the current generation LFA3647 Xeons, you pretty much need dual 8180 kind of setup to get Cinebench score of around 7500, that is 410w TDP for two processors. With the same 14nm, squeezing such computing power into a single chip is not going to lower the TDP. We are about to see the hottest (300-400W) Intel processor ever released.
- dogma1138 8y agoI don’t expect the TDP to be above 250W which is what AMD seem to match with TR2.
- dannypgh 8y agoIf it's Intel demonstrating on Intel chips, does it really count as "over"clocking? Seems like it's just clocking.
- taneq 8y agoIt's overclocking if it's over the nameplate clock speed, regardless of who does it.
