I'm paraphrasing a bit, but I read somewhere "Programmers fail because they can't apply statistical methods. Statisticians fail because they can't get their data into a comma separated file". I don't really share your irritation with the article, which I thought was good. But I do agree data prep is not an afterthought. It’s an important part of data science that requires real skill and expertise.
