Agreed. It seems like the city does not care. These people need avenues for help but also consequences for defiling city streets.

- Balgair 8y agoTo be fair, YOU are "the city". This is a republic after all. If you don't like it, show up and say something. Rent Board contact info: https://sfrb.org/commission-meetings https://sfrb.org/commission-meetings SF Tenant's Union contact info: https://www.sftu.org/contact/ https://www.sftu.org/contact/ The last day to register to vote is THIS TUESDAY.
- otterley 8y agoI believe a link to a group of people who want the city to build a ton of housing (including public housing for the indigent) would be more appropriate. Controlling rent will do nothing for homeless people, and will make their plight even worse.
- Balgair 8y agoWell, then post that link. :)
- JumpCrisscross 8y agoI would add https://cayimby.org https://cayimby.org. Rent boards and tenant unions are part of the problem.
- Balgair 8y agoGreat link, thanks!
- Domenic_S 8y agoAs I said elsewhere the term “homeless” is a bit of a misnomer that describes the ultimate consequence of a ton of underlying illnesses that result in eventual (actual) homelessness. Mental illness (I file addiction under that umbrella) is the root cause that should be treated. Those people dumping needles on SF sidewalks won’t get magically well by handing them the key to an apartment. We need to treat the whole problem.
- samcheng 8y agoInterestingly, many people say the same thing about our epidemic of gun massacres. Are there any mental health startups out there?
- Balgair 8y agoOk, go tell those boards this. Heck, make your own board. Grab a bunch of your friends, co-workers, etc. Attend, participate, make your voices heard. Democracy only works if you do.
- ihsw2 8y agoIt doesn't matter how much the city or its taxpayers care, it's a cultural problem. These people have embraced transient and drug-addled lifestyles, there is nothing to "fix." They won't magically become respectable and self-sufficient individuals if you provide them with unlimited quantities of accommodations, they simply don't care. It's a cultural problem where they're not compatible with their host population. They want to live in squalor and drift from day to day higher than a kite.
- fjsolwmv 8y agoUnclear if you are complaining about homeless people are tech company engineers.
- psyc 8y agoLol. The last thing the homeless need are more consequences. Let able-bodied and able-minded folk suck up their token share of the suffering.
- turtlecloud 8y agoGreat. I sound like a good idea for a utility token sale ICO. :)
- beenBoutIT 8y agoThis recent change in Starbucks restroom policy should lead to a reduction in this type of behavior.
