Cities are remarkably old-school. It's the suburbs that are the scourge on childhood development. Which is ironic because the whole reason people moved to the suburbs was that they were "safer for children".
- hsljekskfh 8y agoi just moved to portland from sf and my experience has been the opposite. the city west of the river is almost entirely suburbs with 20mph speed limits where bikers, teenagers, house cats and kids walking dogs all feel pretty safe.
