- chrisseaton 8y ago> Are they stored differently Differently... from what?
- arsmoriendi 8y agoI think they meant if they have to be stored under special conditions like an dry, cool and low-oxygen environment.
- dogma1138 8y agoCool and dry sorta they have had some issues due to climate change overall it’s hust seeds in boxes kept at low temperatures they don’t need special storage other than a nominally sterile environment to prevent rot and other environmental issues such as mold, fungi and other pests feeding on them.
- weaksauce 8y agoCorrect. I was curious if they required anything out of the ordinary. Like super low temps or extremely dry or something else.
- arsmoriendi 8y agoIt depends. Some seeds last 32,000 years, apparently[0]. [0] https://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2012/02/120221-oldest-seeds-regenerated-plants-science/ https://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2012/02/120221-olde...
- bwanab 8y agoI saw Cary Fowler speak last week. He's the guy that organized the Svalbard vault. He said that the seeds are regularly tested. They are rotated when their germination rate goes below 85%.
