Tuition increases are mainly due to expanding administrative staff subsidized by a bottomless supply of $120 billion+ yearly in federally guaranteed student loans. If you aren't rich (or destitute and eligible for a full ride) you're going to take a big hit.
- maxerickson 8y agoYou don't have to be destitute to get quite a lot of tuition assistance at Michigan's Ann Arbor campus: https://admissions.umich.edu/costs-aid/michigan-residents https://admissions.umich.edu/costs-aid/michigan-residents The $11 million divided across 45,000 students is $250, so hardly the main component of the $15,000 tuition.
