I gree with a prior poster that if this is US then they are in trouble with the government. I suspect this 'Loan' is a way to keep them out of jail. Loans to have to have interest charge. To remedy the situation, agree to sign the loan when you get an offer for employment that includes a signing bonus, that FAR exceeds the loan amount.
