It seems like all content would be fine for them, what would you filter out for teenagers?

what about pre-teens or even younger ones, there are a lot video content at youtube that are not kids-friendly, try to search for some sex/violent videos you will be surprised. I have a friend working at youtube, she said so far the only safe way to "filter" video for kids is with human eyes.

  Is there actual evidence that such content causes harm, or is this the usual “think of the children” FUD ? I know it’s a sample size of one, but being exposed to violent & explicit content as a kid doesn’t seem to have ruined my life in any way. Finally, any kind of “filter” would be ineffective; as kids will still find ways of exchanging such content offline. If anything, making the content forbidden would make it seem more appealing.

In the US you have content ratings like NC-17, don't you? In the UK we have 15 and 18 rated content. So I guess content like that, some people would filter for teenagers.

  Teenagers can get jobs and buy their own devices. Any age restriction past 13 or so is kind of pointless in the 21st century.

    Huh? The question wasn't about how to filter to teenagers, was it? The question was about what people might want to filter to teenagers.

      OK but then we're not talking about the real world where teenagers are able to access anything on the internet (regardless of filtering), but a hypothetical world where adults have total control over teenagers. I guess what I'm saying is that the premise is false.

  I think Youtube already filters that content. There are very few videos with age restriction and most of them have to do with sexually suggestive content, which doesn't make much sense because teenagers (at least male teens) consume porn anyways. What kind of unrestricted videos are inappropiate for teens?

    Age restriction is sort of a self imposed thing. But on youtube you only have "18+" or "all". Youtube expects you to rate your videos yourself, or you can get reported and they will do it for you. Basically content that contains one of the following is supposed to be 18+ [1]: * Vulgar language * Violence and disturbing imagery * Nudity and sexually suggestive content * Portrayal of harmful or dangerous activities Personally I put restriction when I upload game videos with graphic violence as that is not really suited for non adults imho. I'm less likely to put restriction on nudity and vulgar language although I don't swear myself in my videos.   Does anyone actually care about that? If anything, a filtering mechanism would backfire because kids & teens would be exclusively seeking out that content because that’s where the “good stuff” would be.
