Emacs uses Control and Meta. That makes Super a very useful key to map custom functions to.

  Mine still works, just the bare key press that opens the start menu.

    That's true, but when you use the key a lot it often happens that you press it and then release it. It's very annoying Also, the hardcoding of super-o is even more annoying. I also noticed that in recent versions of Gnome, super-s doesn't work anymore. I have no explanation for that one.

      Bummer. Well perhaps Mate is a good choice then. I'm enjoying it though still a bit lacking compared to Windows 2k, sigh.
