Reddit is getting so much usage because it hasn't been monetized yet. At the moment it's quite good free user forum/board/discussion/community-style site.
The new design will drive the users who liked that away. They will either eventually scatter away to hundreds of different places, or one or two new companies will take Reddit's current place.
- SquareWheel 8y agoMost users of reddit do not have accounts. Those users have already been using the redesign for some time.
- vishnu_ks 8y agoI don't think Steve is stupid enough to make the new design compulsory. He has mentioned hundreds of times how the redesign killed Digg. Old users would keep using Reddit by visiting old.reddit.com (or by opting out of redesign). They are not going anywhere.
- falcon620 8y agoI haven't seen an official statement for this yet. If he's planning to do that, great! Until then.. I'm thinking we're probably all migrating to a facebook-like experience soon.
