- anothergoogler 8y agoI did, because you followed with "I’m not really sure what to take from all this, other than if Nas is really concerned about computer science and how it relates to time, then dammit, we should be concerned, too." The theme of the song you're talking about is lukewarm neoludditism. Not vague concern for computer science. And you're still doing it, infantilizing his music. He doesn't do "great shit," you could say he is a great lyricist, that Nastradamus is an underappreciated album (or, according to Nas, that it really is trash -- who's right?). But rap doesn't get a seat at the Adults' Table, it seems.
- holman 8y agoAh, totally see where you're going with this. Definitely my bad- I really should have ended this time programming post with a long treatise on hip hop styles and lyricism rather than toss in an obvious joke as a small aside to the longer point. (I am being patronizing here, fwiw.)
- macintux 8y agoYou think time has some weird edge cases, but then you get into a discussion about cultural appropriation and you realize how lucky you are to only be worrying about calendars.
- anothergoogler 8y agoI used the word "appropriating" but I wasn't talking about cultural appropriation.
- macintux 8y agoI quote: "appropriating rap culture" I must admit to failing to see the distinction between appropriating culture and cultural appropriation.
