As a foreigner to the US, when I was visiting Burlington, MA. I found really odd that there was almost no sidewalks, so it was really difficult to walk by, everything was built for traveling by car from place to place (Which is not the case in the cities, That's the pattern in the suburbs)
Following your thoughts, this patterns will extend and multiply, probably became even more hostile for pedestrians in some places.
- maxxxxx 8y agoI am worried about that too. Right now the biggest challenge for autonomous cars is to recognize obstacles like pedestrians. I wouldn't be too surprised if we would end up with a situation where it's up to the pedestrian to get out of the way of autonomous vehicles because they have always right of way.
- xapata 8y agoI hope the opposite. When humans don't drive, they won't mind the car taking an extra minute to drive around the other side of the building. There'll be more opportunity for pedestrian-only streets.
