FYI, the term "social listening" has an entirely different meaning in the marketing industry (it means social media monitoring). So some people might get confused as to what you're showing.
- dustfinger 8y agoThat is exactly how I interpreted "social listening" at first.
- jqbx_jason 8y agoThanks- I'll start changing the language, had no idea. What would you call something like this though? Curious what might convey the idea better.
- publicfig 8y agoYou could say "Group Listening" or "Collaborative Listening" possibly.
- jqbx_jason 8y agoPerfect, works for me! Will use "Group Listening" from now on. Thanks
- mercer 8y agoI'd agree with that approach. 'social' is burdened with a variety of meaning, and a lot of it not too positive. 'group listening' sidesteps any of those possible concerns.
- brudgers 8y ago"Listen with your friends"? "Listen together"? On the other hand, if you want a buzzword, "social listening" seems fine because it is only used in a niche that most potential users aren't living in. Sure it might run up against VC conceptions. That points to its real problem: "social listening" is a product category more than an activity.
- derek985 8y agoJason, I really like the term crowdsourced. As in real-time crowdsourced streaming radio or the like.
- strig 8y agoSocial Radio?
- virgil_disgr4ce 8y agoWhat percentage of JQBX's users are in the marketing industry? Not that I necessarily disagree. But does it definitely matter?

- mercer 8y agoFor me the term 'social' in the context of some new app or site has some negative connotations. Using 'group' or perhaps 'collaborative' would be more neutral, I think. EDIT: as others have suggested.
