Having worked at a company where we did all pairing, all the time, I think it's absolutely "the right way" to do software development. After doing it enough, I think that most people will get over their dislike of it. But you're right that it isn't for everyone. You kinda need to build your team around it and have your interview process select the kind of people that will enjoy it. I really like the idea of pairing with someone for two hours after you finish up a ticket. I think that would be a great way to introduce the team I'm currently on to pairing.
