I also find I spend less when I carry cash. I've moved to paying my online bills via credit card, but money for eating out, coffees, movies etc gets withdrawn in cash - and I often find I have more left over than if it was a line item in a budget spreadsheet. (Fun fact: this effect is one of the major reasons casinos have you gamble with chips)
