Show HN: All SF Scooters on One Map
- gkoberger 8y agoThe site is down now so I can't really try it (oh no!), but I'd love something like this. I have no brand loyalty, and I hate switching between apps. Some feature requests: * Better mobile support * Filtering (for example, I don't want bikes.. just scooters) * Maybe I'm alone on this, but I'd rather color coding show the company rather than the battery * Is there a way to deep-link to the specific app's "Ride" screen? Clever way to get referrals!
- FriedPickles 8y agoThanks! I just brought the site back up so please give it another shot. And please let me know what specific issues you're seeing on mobile. Filtering is definitely in the works, and I'll consider changing the color coding to be brand (or indicate both in the markers somehow). On mobile, clicking the brand name should open the app (unless its not installed, in which case it should take you to the install page for the app). I haven't found a way to link to the specific vehicles in the apps though.

- randyrand 8y agoThis is exactly why Bird and Lime, et al will be very low profit margin businesses. No brand loyalty, no differentiation, lots of competition.
- chrisseaton 8y agoWhy do you want to see the company as a priority if you have no brand loyalty?
- steadicat 8y agoLoyalty != preference. I bet parent – like me – has a preference for the better scooters and software (Bird) over the shitty ones (Lime), but he’ll grab a Lime if no Bird is nearby.
- gkoberger 8y agoThat's exactly it. I'll always take a Bird (or Spin) over a Lime, but it's a judgement call (distance, battery, etc). Compared to, say, Uber vs Lyft, in which I personally refuse to use Uber no matter what.
- acsands13 8y agoBased on these features you might like Migo (https://www.getmigo.com/ https://www.getmigo.com/). Not affiliated with them in any way, just a user of the app. Cool Show HN though! Can now check scooter locations in the browser, as well as on mobile.
- MrMorden 8y agoWait, the fungi from Yuggoth are doing app development now?
- steadicat 8y agoMigo doesn’t seem to have Bird. Transit has all three: https://medium.com/@transitapp/welcome-to-scootopia-we-now-aggregate-all-electric-scooters-c31c7337d5e6 https://medium.com/@transitapp/welcome-to-scootopia-we-now-a...
- michaelrbock 8y agohttps://transitapp.com/ https://transitapp.com/ has almost exactly what you're looking for on mobile.
- pilingual 8y agoNice. How much delay is there on the scooter/bike location?
- FriedPickles 8y agoData is currently refreshed every 3 minutes, and I'm working to increase the frequency further.
- wferrell 8y ago@FriedPickles - Where/how are you getting the data? Anything you would be willing to share?
- deleted 8y ago[deleted]
- daniel_levine 8y agomy assumption would be private APIs he's figuring out by MITM'ing mobile network traffic
- FriedPickles 8y agoYep, that's how I get the data.
- livejamie 8y agoHow are you getting this information?
- Snackchez 8y agoHave you found any (crazy / funny) outliers?
- zootam 8y agoThe limes in sausalito and vista point are pretty good IMO.
