I think these letters (from an ex-Google employee, for example) reach the top of HN just because they are somehow famous among a selected group of people with enough points in their accounts that, after upvoting the submission, it gets exposed to many readers like us. I have been reading a lot of "letters" from Amazon employees here [1] so it's not so rare, just that publishing a rant about your employment with a big company will affect your future in a good or bad way depending on what you write.
