Having fun is different from learning. If fun learning is ineffective, it's not good learning.

Yes, you can have fun without learning (e.g. at a strip club -- at least without learning something academic that is), and you can learn without having fun. However you can't learn if you're bored out of your mind and tuned out, and having some fun in your learning helps with that.
