Does it really mean anything? I'm actually a bit surprised that the claim existed as far back as 100 years ago. The US had absolutely nothing to claim about Hawaii whatsoever, yet just marched in, drove out the original king and occupied the place. Surely any "historical facts" have no importance whatsoever in geopolitical maneuvers.
