Just relaunched my website with quite a different look and wanted to share it here to see opinions. Feel free to criticize it (constructively please) so that I can improve it.
It has two main goals: for showing my open source in case anyone wants to donate and for future possible jobs (either full-time or freelancing). The design is a bit torn apart trying to achieve both goals at the same time, but still pretty decent IMHO. The Open Source goal is long-term while the other is short term and I don't need that one right now, so things like a CV link are ignored so far.
- azinman2 8y agoI think the faux window title bars take away from being able to look at the actual design underneath — they often clash.
- franciscop 8y agoGood thing, I chose a bright color from a previous gray to add contrast. Might switch them to black as they did in StackOverflow: https://stackoverflow.blog/2017/02/14/why-stack-overflow-redesigned-the-top-navigation/ https://stackoverflow.blog/2017/02/14/why-stack-overflow-red...
- jacobevelyn 8y agoGlad to see you're still working on Picnic CSS! I remember you being super responsive when I opened a few GitHub issues three years ago (wow, time flies!). Still love the look :)
- franciscop 8y agoNo problem, thanks for trying it and sorry I broke your site! It is mostly maintenance-only, which is a pity because I use it daily but the cost to improve it is quite high and I have some other priorities both at work and personal. The good thing is, it is stable enough that I can use it daily without worrying about breaking stuff for the most of it :)
- jeffbargmann 8y agoI mildly disagree re titlebars. I think they make it unique! I've seen a million of these and I usually glaze over. This felt different. I bookmarked it in fact :) I can see the conflict though. I didn't immediately get what was going on, but once I did I thought it was cool. My main concern was with your "Products" section, for which I walk away unsure of what you did / your role. Did you make the sites in full? Or did you work on some piece? Via omission, portfolios often blow out of proportion the individual's role, so I tend to take all entries with a huge grain of salt. ("You made...Nike.com? All of it?") If these are really all you, consider making that more clear in a graceful way. (Counterargument: everyone knows this, and portfolio just exists to get you to step where they ask. But to me lack of context hurts.) Congrats on the site, the writing and the past work in general btw!
