Ask YC: Are you building a cathedral?

Depending on your point of view, a cathedral is either an emblem of grand purpose or a colossal waste of time; the artisans are either applying their humble talent to some important end, or throwing it all away on someone else's fantasy. Which way do you see it, and, more importantly, what is your cathedral? Or is your current project its own small edifice?
