Seconding this. It can be hard for high achieving individuals to therapy. Many people have been able to power through life through their intellect, resilience, charisma, or whatever else they have going for them. At some point, that might not work anymore. A licensed mental health professional will help someone work through what is going on in their life. Find someone you are able to connect with and go from there.
- ataturk 8y agoAll that ends up happening is that they will prescribe you some happy pills and then you can paper over the bigger problem and pretend it doesn't exist. Whee! I've never met psychologist or psychiatrist that did anything for me except want to medicate me into Zombieland where the rest of America resides. Fuck that. I think one of my biggest issues at work is that most of the people are on anti-depressants and I'm not and yet they're the ones who can't handle even the tiniest, least bit of negativity. I grew up with adversity and while yeah, sometimes things get to me, I am free to express myself how I want to about it, including bitching. It's called "blowing off steam" and it's much healthier than medicating yourself.
