Good news. It won't take you hours to setup. More like 10 minutes, including installation. https://www.wireguard.com/quickstart/ https://www.wireguard.com/quic

It's the simplest VPN setup I've ever seen.
- StavrosK 8y agoAs I mentioned in my comment, I've read that, and connecting the two points is easy, but what I don't know is how to get my traffic from the second point to the rest of the house. I imagine that if I add an interface in the same subnet as the rest of the devices, I'll confuse stuff, and if I don't, I'll have to somehow relay the traffic from one interface to the other.
- hamandcheese 8y agoOn the linux "server" you'll want to enable IP packet forwarding (essentially allowing it to function as a router). Packets destined for elsewhere on the lan will then be forwarded according to your routing table (so it should probably Just Work if the machine can already reach the rest of the lan). http://www.ducea.com/2006/08/01/how-to-enable-ip-forwarding-in-linux/ http://www.ducea.com/2006/08/01/how-to-enable-ip-forwarding-... On the "client" side you'll likely want a static route for your lan that ensures those packets go over your wireguard interface.
