It's hard to have it both ways, unless you're one of those rare old souls in a teenager. I stayed pretty geeky though it wasn't without its price. I'm sure I said all sorts of offensive things to people, because I'm just more matter of fact about things. "Oh, people say the kid looks like the father to assure him of his paternity, since we pretty much know who the mother is." So I never made fast friends, and I was, at best, an acquired taste. These days, I wished I made more friends in college. However, I was lucky that I found a core group of friends that liked me as I was. That probably helped.
