- segmondy 8y agoBut isn't it the same argument that if you wish to secure your system you really need to get a whitehat hacker. NSA looks at herself in the same light as a whitehat.
- colordrops 8y agoNo one else but the NSA sees the NSA as whitehats.
- stochastic_monk 8y agoNation-State Adversary is my favorite backronym for NSA.
- spadros 8y agoYeah, the NSA's trust is down the drain. I wouldn't call them whitehat. Huge conflict of interest to accept anything they propose.
- dragonwriter 8y agoThe NSA are overtly, by a central part of their official mission, black hats, not white hats. If US federal defensive cybersecurity (especially on cryptographic matters) is going to have credibility in its recommendations outside of the US government, especially given the long history of the NSA compromising defensive recommendations in service of its offensive mission, it needs to be both visibly and effectively distanced from the signals intelligence mission of NSA/CSS.
- monochromatic 8y agoHiring a whitehat is one thing. The NSA is gray at best.
