Personally I've found myself writing lots of simple command line utilities in Go. YMMV but the standard library handles file IO, network stuff, running external commands and a bunch of standard encodings really well. It also has static typing, and awesome concurrency features. It's obviously not perfect, but it has replaced lots of Bash scripts for me.
