Holy crap, you just fixed bitbucket for me. I don't think I've ever shrunk that panel since I didn't even know how to do that, so I would think that the shrunk version is the default.

On some repositories I visit[0], it defaults to being shrunk. I didn't even recognize that the column of icons was supposed to be a menu. It took me over a half hour to figure out how to submit a pull request when I wanted to make a contribution. (I don't mean the time to figure out their code or build system. I mean the time spent clicking through the site after I had a branch ready.) I think they might be using their own hosted / reconfigured version of BitBucket, so maybe this isn't 100% on BitBucket?
