Ask HN: How do you stay updated with open source tools?

I've been developing websites and apps for almost 7 years now. Yet, every 2 weeks or so I find an awesome 3 year old library I had no clue about. Before asking here, I asked some of my friends how they found out about the tools they use . A few answers were: - "Someone at work was using it" - "Someone at work/ a friend recommended it" - "Found it through a news letter" - "Found it on reddit/ hn/ a blog post" - "Found it while searching for a problem on Google" (By including a library in my project, I (or my employer) bear a financial cost. And I want to be absolutely sure that I'm picking up the best tool available so I want to evaluate all options.) What are your strategies to stay updated with the fast paced open source world ?
