Not sure Berlin and the Bay Area are comparable. Berlin has working public transit (for some definition of working, much better than Caltrain and BART though).

Not sure Berlin and the Bay Area are comparable. Berlin has working public transit (for some definition of working, much better than Caltrain and BART though). San Francisco has 700k inhabitants, Berlin has 3.5m inhabitants (half as many as the entire Bay Area, but much more cohesive).
