Reminds me of the relationship Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had with Sherlock Holmes.
Doyle despised writing Sherlock stories and did not consider them serious fiction. At one point he killed Sherlock, only to revive him years later because of popular demand.
Today there are societies and museums around the world dedicated to the great detective.

- mikecane 16y agoIt's heartbreaking Doyle couldn't step outside of himself to see what a wonder he had created. I didn't read them until I was an adult and was astonished at the contrast with the Rathbone Holmes movies I'd seen as a kid. The Holmes stories deserve their immortality because not only are they well-written, they approach genius.
