5,104 BTC Later, the Bitcoin Pineapple Fund Announces It’s Time to Say Farewell
- c1utch1 9y agoHopefully the coins were originally obtained via legal means. Either way, it's very noble of the donor to give out large amounts of wealth like that.
- bitxbitxbitcoin 9y agoNot trying to be rude, but why hopefully? I guess with the providence in question, this is also a good example of the fungible properties of money :D.
- drb91 9y agoWell, if it were criminal money, the world would much more clearly be a better place because of it. In no situation does this increase the amount of crime in the world.
- craftyguy 9y agoWell, if it were criminal money, then I guess it matters how it was obtained.. e.g. if they killed 5,104 babies to get it. Could have been a boring white-collar crime though, since I'm sure someone would have noticed 5,104 dead babies and raised an issue with it.
- drb91 8y agoPresumably that crime would have occurred no matter where the money ended up, so you might as well use that money for a good cause. It only matters becaus a) someone found their money and wants it back or b) people dislike the giving of money to charities and treat it with suspicion.
- Sangermaine 9y agoUnless this was some kind of money laundering scheme which used the charitable aspect to mask what was really going on.
- drb91 8y agoPossible, but I don’t quite get how laundering through a charity would work. Maybe they’re tumbled with dirty money before contribution? The charity gets written off as a cost of business. Still seems far fetched. I held hundreds of coin at one point: irrationally, this strikes me as an early hodler.
