Ad hominem attacks are sometimes good. It's reasonable to evaluate a source before you trust what comes out of that source. For example, I have ample experience being lied to by Donald Trump and therefore I feel comfortable ignoring most of what he says or assuming it's a lie. There is too much information in the world today to not rely on filters like the reputation of and your experience with the source.
