Anecdotally, a lot of men in my circle complain that their wives won't let them spend time with other men, outside of family gatherings. Definitely not healthy, definitely needs to be remedied.
- Cthulhu_ 8y agoThat really ties in with another post I read a while ago - the running gags at weddings and such where the wife is referred to as "the ol' ball and chain", where the man's life is basically over and he's emasculated for life by the wife. I mean all of those 'jokes' make it sound like a really unhealthy and abusive relationship. No wonder people don't get married as much anymore.

- amyjess 8y agoI think we need to recognize this problem for what it is: spousal abuse. Telling someone they can't have friends outside the marriage is straight-up emotional abuse, no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
