Author here, this is a rather pleasant Sunday surprise. I'm not sure I'd recommend the route in the post. The setup is fragile with a sizable set of moving parts. Simpler options are doubling down on Emacs with TRAMP or using the client terminal emulator (e.g. iTerm) to copy and paste screen contents.
