Contributing? Very little time. I recently did this with go and was able to contribute patch level changes in a couple of days.
Fluency? Months. Its usually not just the language but the whole ecosystem you need to learn.

- aidos 8y agoAgreed. When I started to do python full time I had already been coding professionally (in different languages) for about 15 years. I’d say it took a good 6 months before my code looked nice and pythonic. Sure, it worked from the start but I was reading lots of other code and mine just didn’t feel right in comparison.
