Question - now that Amazon is bringing "3000 jobs" to Vancouver, are they going to be paying wages consistent with their US employees, or with (or just above) the local market rate?
- monkeynotes 9y agoSalaries between Vancouver BC, and Seattle look to be comparable: https://www.glassdoor.ca/Salary/Amazon-Vancouver-Salaries-EI_IE6036.0,6_IL.7,16_IM972.htm https://www.glassdoor.ca/Salary/Amazon-Vancouver-Salaries-EI... https://www.glassdoor.ca/Salary/Amazon-Seattle-Salaries-EI_IE6036.0,6_IL.7,14_IM781.htm https://www.glassdoor.ca/Salary/Amazon-Seattle-Salaries-EI_I...
- flash_fort 9y agoNot really, USD vs CAD.
- monkeynotes 9y agohttps://www.economist.com/content/big-mac-index https://www.economist.com/content/big-mac-index Man, you are right, at home 1CAD buys 13% less than 1USD does at home, if I am reading that correctly.
- mattm 8y agoYes because most of the goods come from the US so Canadians are in effect paying USD but receiving CAD income.
- dblohm7 9y agoMy question is: Is this just a parking lot for employees until they get their US visas sorted out?
- hello_moto 8y agoNo. They employed plenty locals.
- rlanday 9y agoTypically companies that want to open a remote office pay people based on the local market conditions (although Amazon might set their pay to be try to be towards the top of the market, so they could still end up paying better than other companies in the area).
- lainga 9y agoI certainly hope so, or it really will be just a holding zone for people heading across the border to Seattle.
- hello_moto 8y agoAmazon Vancouver pays fresh-grad 95k base + sign-on + RSUs. I don't know how much fresh-grad got in the USA.
