You know Bush Sr. also invaded Iraq which very few people would consider to be "helping" Saddam Hussein, right? Also Bush Sr. was smart enough to know that occupying Iraq would be an open-ended endeavor so got them out of Kuwait and then left with some UN sanctions in place -- one of which was the destruction of WMD's which everyone knew they had.
