Ask HN: Wireguard over OpenVPN?

I have been using OpenVPN with SOCKS5 proxy for sometime. Recently I stumbled upon Wireguard protocol[0] which seems really promising. I have started migrating my machines to Wireguard (with multihop) + SOCKS proxy setup. Is Wireguard a future of a VPN technology?
