As a hiring manager, I very rarely receive applications with a twitter handle or a link to facebook or anything. However, the software we use to manage job postings and applications does try to find all social media accounts for each applicant, and adds them automatically on the application view. It doesn't always work (for a very common name for example), but it is actually pretty good.
