I use the standard library and not much else. If I want some functionality that's difficult to implement, I'll see about including it verbatim in some branch of the source tree. If it's a large amount of code, or not license-compatible, or needs to be updated apart from the program, then I'll resort to using a library. Library updates are the number one reason for code rot, in my opinion. More dependencies is more chance for pain later. I try to pick mature platforms and lower-level libraries which change less frequently.
