Iot is only the latest in a long chain of previous buzzword heritage. Telemetrics, M2M, etc were also hammers in search of the elusive nail. I posit that the main difference this time around is the democratization of marketing the internet has created. More people have thrown more shit at the proverbial wall, thus, more stuck. But iot still remains a huge industry without a killer app, at least in the consumer market.
