If a pilot lands a broken plane safely, she may just be doing her job, but to a passenger on board, they may feel she saved their life. That feeling is justifiable and should in no way be minimized by having a "well, technically" attitude. As for the media, well, they're going to get caught up in the emotional side of it. That's just a given.
